Fla. Department of Law Enforcement asked to verify sheriff’s gun qualification

Serious concerns have been raised as to the firearms qualifications of Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre by two newspaper reports, Gun Rights Examiner documented on Wednesday. Because of the implications for public safety and to the integrity of the State of Florida’s certification standards, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is being sent a link to this column, which serves as an open letter. A career Florida law enforcement officer has made shocking allegations concerning the firearms credentialing of Sheriff Manfre. A July 31 report in The Daytona Beach News-Journal noted “one of his former lieutenants — a one-time firearms instructor the sheriff laid off in 2013 — said Manfre has a history of poor performance firing his agency-issued Glock model 17, a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.”

Should be an easy fix, right?
Just bring in a State Police firearms instructor and have his re-qual video recorded.

There problem solved, he can shoot and hit what he aims at! Right? Unless he can't, bwa ha ha ha...

just say'n cause that's what happens in the army when there is a discrepancy. If a platoon comes back from the range and they all shot expert [I've seen this] another compeny will be called in to over see their re-qual and wow, just amazing how they all start shooting like everyone else. after that a few heads roll and some art-15's handed out.

A Sherriff is a politician. Who cares it they are firearms qualified or not. Id rather that they weren't LE qualified at all. Perhaps then they would have some regard for the people they serve.

Way to miss the point A-3:34

I like how the sheriff and his employee bragged about how he could supposedly hit a late target at ranges from one yard to fifteen with only missing 20 percent of the time.

I have literally seen teenage girls who have never touched a pistol in their lives do better than that on the first day of shooting. These are the "highly trained" people who the gun banners are always referencing as authorities on the issue! Not a surprise that he was a danger on the range, too. I can just imagine this Barney fife pointing his gun all over the place.

Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre has been asked to investigate this matter.

He reports that the email has been lost and the Hard disc the records were on has crashed ...

Isn't this the same stool sample that recently said people shouldn't have rifles and shotguns at all? Now we know why. He's a scared little piss ant.

At the municipal range I work at part time, we have a standing joke.
"If a police officer is shooting at you, stand still."
Yes I'm in Florida and NO it really is not funny, but sadly true, reflecting the poor to nonexistent training most cops get.

Florida's elected sheriffs are constitutional officers. They do not HAVE to qualify with a firearm anywhere. They do not have to be certified officers. If they meet the guidelines of running for office and get elected, they're in, period.
