Getting ready for the zombie apocalypse?

Even an Ozarks coroner gets surplus military guns
Doug Wortham used a Defense Department giveaway program for law enforcement to stock his office with an assault rifle, a handgun and a Humvee — even though the people in his custody are in no condition to put up a fight.
They're dead.
Wortham is the Sharp County, Arkansas, coroner. He says the Humvee helps him navigate the rugged terrain of the Ozarks foothills, but he struggled to explain why he needs the surplus military weapons he acquired more than two years ago.

Since in most jurisdictions the coroner is legally the only person that can serve papers on or arrest a sitting Sheriff (at the local level at least) perhaps he foresees a pressing need to be thusly armed, at least temporarily.

An uncle offers you a free .45 or AR-15, are you going to turn it down?

On the other hand, Ferguson style assault vehicles go too far.

HMMM, is free ammo involved?

I can see a need for the Humvee. It seems that the old boy has seen one too many zombie movies. The M-16 and M-9 should be taken away from him. Buy your own gun, pal.

Ain't it obvious? He wanted cool toys to play with!

Zombie apocalypse already happened. How do you think Obumbles got elected twice?

Wonder if the Humvee has a PA system so he can drive through town telling people to "bring out your dead" once Ebola takes hold?

Wait, wasn't it this blog that applauded the forward deployment and care-taking of our future supplies?

The 'surplus' weapons that are being 'given away', should also be
given to every citizen qualified to have them since it's us that paid for them with our taxes. Same goes for the Humvees and other items.

To only 'give' those items to law enforcement is discriminatory to the extreme. It's bull shit !!

Distribute them to our citizens and make America like Switzerland.
Everyone of age prepared to defend the country from ALL attempts to invade or conquer it.

How well does a Humvee or Mrap drive if someone puts some laquer or shellac in the fuel tank? Makes for a dandy paperweight.

Pulverized quartz in the oil works wonders too. So does a few sticks of dynamite mounted by the springs with two pieces of hacksaw blade separated but able to contact each other over bumpy terrain. They just need a battery so they'll spark or send a charge to a blasting cap when they contact each other. Makes for a real surprise.
