"Answering the critics of MRAPs and the 1033 Program."

Git yer stinkin' civil libertarian hands off'n my tank.
Of course I'm on record as supporting anything that gets military weaponry out into the hinterlands where the armed citizenry can gets its hands on in an emergency.

Lyin' fn cop. Job is less dangerous than it's ever been. Go drive a truck if you want danger. Check the statistics.

My only comment is this: If the police didn't act like an occupying army, they wouldn't have to worry so much about being attacked.

Back in the 80's we all thought the Soviets were going to invade. As it turns out, the occupying army is made up of those kids in the neighborhood who always wanted to be bullies but couldn't.

Being a cop is more dangerous for the citizens.

Reading the comments along with the article lead me to the inescapable conclusion that the dumb bastards not only do not have a clue, they don't have a clue where to start looking to FIND a clue.

Having a badge should not give ANYONE a license to kill anyone any time. Police should not be allowed to use deadly force in ANY situation where any other citizen would not be justified in using it.

PERIOD!!!!!

As for the whole getting home safe at the end of their shift argument; they have no more right to complete their shift safely than ANY OTHER CITIZEN! What's the old saw? Something about "heat" and "kitchen"?

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2010/04/08/the-20-most-dangerous-jobs.html

Baily Beast article citing BLS numbers on the 20 most dangerous jobs in America. Police officer is #12.

Cops are not the only ones who want to go home at the end of their shift. Can't think of any reason why they should feel more special than Jobs #1 thru #11.

Reading the comments on any PoliceOne article will rapidly disabuse someone of the belief that most cops are good. While I'm opposed to cops having APCs they still have to come outside of them if they want to play and then the fight is much more even.

"Get your hands off my tin coffin" is far more appropriate in urban environs.

WWII taught that lesson ... tanks, or any armored vehicle, require open ground and rapid mobility to survive for any time at all.

Anonymous @ 3:32 is completely right, and there are also other ways to convince yourself that it's a rare cop in the US who isn't a scumbag. One of the best is to watch any video clip of police brutality during a political protest. You'll notice that cops never hesitate to commit violent crimes against citizens even when there are lots of other cops around. From this we can draw a chilling conclusion: All cops KNOW that their comrades will not arrest them, report them, or act against them in any way when they wrongfully assault someone. In other words, even the police are aware that everyone in their ranks is corrupt and contemptuous of civil liberties. Like any other organized crime family, the Blue Mafia has a strict code of silence, and it lies at the heart of this corruption.
