China’s Got a New Mountain Tank

Interesting.

They developed it to protect their western border? Or to attack our western border? And for all we know, our Gov't sold them the tech to build this thing, which is why our army doesn't have it. All things considered, any vehicle on a mountain pass is vulnerable to rock slides at the most inopportune time. And although the front of this turret has sloped armor to deflect propelled explosives, i didn't see any sloped armor anywhere else. And as anyone put in this position could probably tell us - being inside a metal box that has been liberally treated with a flammable mixture and ignited is a very, very hot place to hide..

seems like a lot of trouble to go to - developing a tank capable of operating in austere conditions and away from paved roads.

Last time I checked, the United States has a VERY GOOD network of roads, and more and more of it's population is living in easily-sieged urban enclaves.

Why would they develop a new tank when their existing ones would be quite suitable here?

Only thing I can guess is that with a lighter weight tank, you could cram more of them into a RO-RO ship. Maybe the REAL issue is China not having enough shipping available for the invasion?

It won't matter. 6 months after the EMP strike, 90% of this country will have starved to death anyway. What resistance are they expecting to find here?
